Aeternum Institute
Summary
Section titled “Summary”- high school politics lmao
- two factions with different ideals
- there is a student council that features members regardless of the faction, generally elected by the student body
- there are also “faction heads”: the top 5 students of each faction that generally represents that ideal.
- it’s an unofficial thing
- the students just generally defer to them
- why? high school politics
faction ideals
Section titled “faction ideals”- develop, patch, map out understanding (Faction A)
- break and exploit and get ahead (Faction B)
both seek to develop their understanding of magic, use it in as many ways possible, and possibly discover some unknown facet of magic. they have some degree of obsession in their field of choice, which is why the line dividing them is so thin.
both sides can be stupidly unethical, both sides can box themselves by accident. both sides will take what they know and wonder what else is there? what has not been tested yet? what are the possible failings?
the difference ultimately is the goal. if one wants to see the world grow and prosper, the other just wants it to burn for the hell of it.
which is why a lot of students stay in the middle lane and only a few truly pick a side. it is just a coincidence that the top students happen to have a faction they call home.
shifts from common school systems
Section titled “shifts from common school systems”- I initially planned for this to be a high school, but I think it’d be a bit interesting to have it be a blend between high school and college
- See, this whole thing might as well rely on basic-ish STEM, so technically, one would require at the minimum O-level competency (GCSE system)
- Thus, expect at least year 10 level education
- Still keeping the 4 year system, but tune it so:
- 1st years: Year 11 equivalent (+/- 16-17 y.o.)
- 2nd years: Year 12 equivalent
- 3rd years: Year 13 equivalent (1st year college)
- 4th years: 1st/2nd year college equivalent
- Technically graduation in normal schooling is around Year 12 still. This school is not necessarily following “standards”
- entry is pretty much “as long as you have passed O-levels and are within your 11th or 12th year”
- it is an accelerated program pretty much; you will be dabbling “A-level” STEM as well as the magic applications of it, while also conducting “IB-esque” research assignments, spread between 4 years
- some might skip college and just go here directly. you do graduate with a diploma
